Spring 2022: Jewellery Styles to Look Out For
The great thing about fashion in 2022 is—there are no rules!
You can mix symmetry with asymmetry, gold with silver, chunky jewellery with formals, and you can do anything you like. Just like anything in fashion, jewellery trends have become relaxed and flexible.
And then we saw celebrities walk down the red carpet at the Met Gala, Billboard Music Awards, and Oscars with wild jewellery pieces and intricate dress ideas.
Who would have thought to pull off a dress change on the red carpet while paying homage to architecture? But looking back at the events, we see some refreshing changes to the style and trends.
After two years of staying indoors and wearing nothing but pyjamas, people enjoy fashion and trends. So now that we are reeling with possibilities, here are some inspirations to freshen up your style statement with jewellery for spring 2022.
1. Chunky Necklaces
It may not be the highlight trend that everyone expected, but it is the most prominent trend this year. And it has a lot to do with Zoom meetings.
As we come out of the Covid-19 pandemic, the online conferences and Zoom meetups are still the most opted meeting dynamics. And that requires only to dress up until shoulder.
People grew accustomed to the idea that all you need to do is put on a nice ironed tee with a chunky necklace. Viola! You are ready for the day.
Moreover, a chunky necklace replaces the need to add any other accessories and gives a very chic look.
Since spring is all about spending more time outdoors, you can pair the chunky, colourful necklace with tight-fitting clothes or your swimwear. It is not an anomaly; the model on the runway made it look refreshing, breezy, and doable.
2. Signet Rings
Signet rings are not new, but this time around, they are going to stay for a long time. As seen in both men and women, they make a classic accessory. Mostly seen in gold, these articles are tried with insignias, birthstones, motifs, and initials.
Designers are enjoying this trend a lot and made signet diamond rings. The jewellery is indeed special and elegant; hence the Duchess of Sussex, who has a very sophisticated taste, was seen wearing one.
3. Arm Cuffs
They are also a new addition to spring this year. Arm cuffs keep reprising themselves as a fashion trend. And they sure deserve it as these cuffs adorn and elevate any dress effortlessly.
Depending on the dress and event, you can pair silver and golden cuffs with dresses. They even make a boho-attire look amazing. If you are smart to pick the right arm cuff, they make your arm look sleek and long.
4. Body Chain
Body chains are back unless you are Mia Khalifa, a known enjoyer of these pieces since way back. Givenchy in a recent ramp inspired to adorn body chains over clothes. So, whether you are wearing a crop top or midi dress, a body chain helps elevate the look.
Then summer is all about bralette and swimwear. Pairing these minimalistic chains makes you look like you as you walk out of the fashion ramp.
5. Choker
It has been a long time coming. Finally, chokers are back, and they are everywhere! They were a major piece used in January fashion week in Paris.
Prominent names like De beers, Mikimoto, and Boucheron showcased chokers with various attires. However, Miu Miu’s golden beady choker became the most famous accessory. And man! It can work with formal and informal regardless.
Soon on the red carpet, we saw celebrities picking this accessory with a nod of approval. There were bold and subtle designs seen this year, pushing the boundaries of creativity all over again.
And somehow, these chokers are deadlier and unremorseful than before
6. Maximalist Earrings
The great thing about maximalist earrings is that they can be the only jewelry article you wear to make a statement yet look fabulous. We saw many statement pieces over the last three months, especially at the Met Gala.
Besides seeing too many pearls, maximalist diamond earrings were also the highlight of this season. Another surprising addition is beads.
It was a thing of the past for teenagers to wear beads. After the wider acceptance of bead necklaces, beads also became a huge element in maximalist earrings.
There are no bounds; elements, silhouettes, patterns, and colours blend in great chaos to create a harmonised maximalist earring. While they make the statement piece, they also symbolise the wearer’s personality.
7. Gold Chains
It started subtly, but now gold chains were frequently seen as accessories on the runway throughout the spring. Chunky, large, and bold gold chains make the perfect neck accessory and can be paired with pearl or diamond studs.
Chains make a wonderful accessory, while one can add some ornaments, family heirlooms, or charms to give it a more personalised look.
8. Candy Colored Jewellery
This summer is all about candy colors. After candy-colored clothes, we see the trend of candy-colored jewellery. They have been around since Met Gala and Grammys 2021, but Paris Fashion Week in February 2022 gave it a nod of approval.
What’s more impressive is the acceptance of candy-coloured rings and lollipop rings. It is so refreshing to see colours never experimented with before paired with diamonds and pearls.
9. Riviere
Sarah Jessica Parker has always been a trendsetter; fashion lovers and stylists still take inspiration from Sex And The City (ended in 2004).
That said, almost two decades later, she came back in And Just Like That (the reboot of SATC) with Modern Riviere—since then, diamond Riviere has been frequenting.
The great thing about this piece of jewellery is that it is minimalistic, subtle yet elegant, and easy to pair with layers of Riviere or long pendants. They complement all kinds of attire, whether it’s formal or informal.
A true example of casual attire elevated by adding Riviere was by Hailey Bieber in the Super Bowl. She was seen wearing a basic tank top and looked like a million bucks.
Pack It Up!
Fashion and trends have evolved. It has become considerate of styles and preferences and has developed tolerance. We also see the fashion industry’s tolerance for different body sizes—who would have imagined a plus-size model walking the ramp.
Similarly, the trends and styles are also tolerant and have great regard for comfort. But again, no matter what is in style, remember comfort is the trend. Anything that doesn’t speak to you is not style.
