From the Movies: Best Bond Moments

The name’s Bond, James Bond.  And for over 50 years, 007 has been thrilling audiences with his globe-trotting adventures. Did you know?  The first Bond film, Dr. No, was released in 1962 and Bond has been played by six actors over the years: Sean Connery, David Niven, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan.

With such a long-running series, it’s no surprise that there are some truly iconic Bond moments. Here are just a few of our favorites:

1. The Opening Sequence of “Dr. No”

The very first Bond film set the tone for the entire franchise with its now-iconic opening sequence. We see Bond suavely ordering a martini (“shaken, not stirred”), flirting with the bartender, and then effortlessly dispatching a couple of would-be assassins. It’s a perfect introduction to the character and his world and also a tantilising taste of the action and adventure to come.

2. The Boat Chase in “Live and Let Die”

The 1973 film “Live and Let Die”  features one of the most thrilling action sequences in the entire series. Bond is hot on the trail of villain Mr. Big, and the chase leads them both through the narrow canals of Louisiana. The scene is full of tense moments, including a hair-raising jump from one moving boat to another, and it’s all capped off by a spectacular explosion. Explosions have always been something that Bond does well, and this is one of the best.

3. The Ski Chase in “The Spy Who Loved Me”

The 1977 film “The Spy Who Loved Me” features another memorable chase scene, this time set against the beautiful backdrop of the Austrian Alps. Bond is once again in pursuit of a villain, this time Karl Stromberg, and the chase takes them both down a steep mountain slope. The scene is full of exciting moments that kept fans on  the edge of their seats, and it’s considered one of the best ski chases in movie history.

4. The Casino Scene in Casino Royale

Generally speaking, casinos have quite a sophisticated air to them. But in the 2006 film “Casino Royale,” the casino scene is anything but refined. In this action-packed movie, James Bond is pitted against Le Chiffre, a terrorist financier, in a high-stakes game of poker this definitely wasn’t a no deposit scenario. The scene is full of suspense and excitement, it’s quite the opposite to a night on the sofa playing free spins offers.

5. The Opening Sequence in “Goldfinger”

The third installment in the James Bond series, 1964’s “Goldfinger,” features one of the most iconic opening sequences in all of cinema. The sequence sees Bond travel to Jamaica and then engage in a fierce game of cards with the villainous Auric Goldfinger. The scene is not only exciting, but it  also sets the tone for the rest of the film.
