Panerai Luminor Watches Celebrating 70th Anniversary Of Collection

In celebration of the 70th anniversary of Panerai Luminor watch collection, the brand has unveiled new Luminor pieces in 2020. Featuring a variety of high-tech materials including Platinumtech and Fibratech etc, these watches make for a distinctive, classy addition to any man’s collection. Whether you’re looking for a timepiece that’s as sophisticated as it is beautiful, there must be a model in Panerai Luminor to meet your needs.

The 1st Panerai Luminor Watch

In 1940, Panerai updated the Radiomir and introduced the Radiomir 1940, which included a casing cut from a single block of steel and a revised crown that shifted from conical to tubular in answer to the Italian Royal Navy’s desire for longer water resistance. With breakthroughs in luminescent materials, Panerai introduced the Luminor in 1949, which included a new proprietary tritium-based luminous compound. The shift from the Radiomir material to the Luminor was completed in a year.

The original Luminor watch was designed in the 1950s. Its slim case has now been updated with a micro-rotor for automatic winding. The 2020 Luminor timepiece has a slimmer design, while the older version was more rugged. Whether you are a fan of classic watch designs or modern, this watch is sure to meet your needs. With the Luminor watch, you’ll feel a sense of heritage and elegance in new Panerai watches.

Panerai Luminor Marina 44mm (PAM01116)

Panerai improves the inherent features of its materials via its workmanship and experimental patented technology. Panerai commemorates its classic collection with a magnificent interpretation: Panerai Luminor Marina, which marks the 70th anniversary of the Luminor family (PAM01116). The model is more stronger and more precious because it is made of platinum.

With a new alloy developed by Panerai’s Laboratorio di Idee, which develops cutting-edge technological materials and procedures, the legendary Italian origin brand takes this precious metal one step further. Platinum is a special alloy used in models that are considered the flagships of luxury watchmaking. It is one of the materials that the brand rarely uses. Panerai uses processes developed in-house to improve the physical qualities of this particular material and its resistance to abrasive impacts. This new material, Platinumtech, makes its debut in the luxury timepiece world with this PAM01116, which is limited to 70 pieces.

The case, which has a diameter of 44 mm and a thickness of 13.4 mm and is designed in the Luminor Marina style, is made nearly entirely of Platinumtech material, from the bezel to the main body, the 12-sided screw-in case back, and even the brand’s hallmark feature, the distinctive crown protection bridge. An olive-green tone “sandwich” dial with the Satine Soleil (sun-ray) design sits beneath the domed sapphire crystal. A balanced arrangement with a date window at 3 o’clock and a small-second counter at 9 o’clock is supplemented with beige Super-LumiNOVA filled numerals and baton indices.

The model is powered by the Caliber P.9010 from the manufacturer. The automatic movement, which, owing to its double-barrel winding mechanism, has a power reserve of 72 hours / 3 days when completely wound, can be seen via the sapphire crystal display, which also has an engraving highlighting the game-changing 70-year warranty.

The watch comes with a brown alligator strap with ecru contrast stitching and a trapezoid buckle, as well as a second strap choice and a screwdriver made of Platinumtech for easy strap and buckle changes.

Other Panerai Luminor Models

The brand also sells luminor timepieces to commemorate the anniversary, i.e. PAM01117, PAM01118, and PAM01119. Three models have a lot in common, yet they also have their own characteristics. All of them have a 44mm case with the massive, locking crown guard, short, strong lugs, and a circular, slanted bezel placed on top of the cushion-shaped case in the Luminor Marina design. They’re also all powered by the in-house P.9010 movement, which has a three-day power reserve. These timepieces have become legendary for a reason: they’re unique while yet seeming natural, as if they’ve always been there. What distinguishes each of the three models is the material used to construct the case. The PAM01117 is made of titanium, the PAM01118 is made of Carbotech (which you may remember from this watch), and the PAM01119 is made of Fibratech, a lightweight and very strong material that’s ideal for a watch like this.
